Former Cisco, Microsoft executive to lead company through next phase of rapid growth as Scalyr helps businesses adapt to engineering requirements for modern customer experiences
SAN MATEO, Calif. – January 17, 2019 — Scalyr, the company that helps engineers troubleshoot issues faster with their blazing-fast log management solution, polished off a record-setting year by hiring Christine Heckart, a tech industry veteran and growth specialist, as its new CEO. In 2018, Scalyr grew paid customers more than 100 percent, adding marquee names such as Cisco, Palo Alto Unified School District, Vanderbilt University, and Worldpay to its customer list. Steve Newman, founding CEO of Scalyr, will assume the role of chairman and founder to focus on advancing the company’s product vision and technology.
For companies in every industry, digital transformation and immersive customer experiences are essential for establishing market relevance, revenue growth, and competitive advantage. As companies adopt new technologies like containers, microservices, orchestration, and serverless computing, the amount of data they need to track and troubleshoot increases exponentially. Scalyr helps companies aggregate data across infrastructures, applications and services into one easy-to-use tool that enables engineers to find insights and answers, fast.
“The market response to Scalyr and adoption of our unified observability platform has been tremendous. I left Google and founded this company to solve problems I experienced as a software developer. We have created a product built for engineers, by engineers, and I want to continue to focus on building great tools. So I made the decision to bring in a new CEO and business partner to drive the aggressive growth of this business,” Newman said. “Christine is an outstanding business leader and human being. She is excited about the opportunity ahead of us. And she embraces our people-first philosophy. I could not be more excited at the chance to work with such an amazing partner.”
Heckart is a veteran technology executive and board member with more than 25 years of experience growing emerging technologies into multibillion dollar businesses from ground zero. Known for her strategic vision and experience navigating market transitions, she most recently served as Senior Vice President at Cisco (NASDAQ: CSCO) and as Executive Vice President at Brocade. In addition, Heckart has held multiple executive and C-level positions at global technology brands, including NetApp, Microsoft, and Juniper Networks. Heckart serves on the board of directors at Lam Research Corporation (NASDAQ: LRCX) and 6sense.
“As digital customer experiences become increasingly immersive, their underlying systems and code have grown more complex, as have the challenges and bugs. The Scalyr platform helps engineers build and troubleshoot software within modern IT and application environments,” Heckart said. “We have an awesome product that developers use daily, an impressively diverse employee base, and a network-effect built into the architecture itself. A query that takes other companies ten minutes takes Scalyr one second, and it will only get faster and more affordable as we grow.”
To support this rapid industry adoption the company more than doubled headcount in 2018 and is beginning the year in new offices close to Caltrain in downtown San Mateo. “We have ambitious goals for growth in 2019. The only way to achieve them is to expand the team,” Heckart said. “The team is incredibly diverse with over 30 percent female representation and more than 40 percent minority representation. If you are smart, curious and enjoy solving hard problems, come join us!”
