We're seeking a Sales Engineer to help acquire, onboard, support, and ultimately make sure our customers have the best possible experience working with Scalyr.
We’re a VC-funded startup, founded in 2011 by former Google engineers with a deep background in technical operations. Our founder Steve Newman (one of the creators of Google Docs) was frustrated by the sheer number of tools required to get his job done managing infrastructure at Google (17 different tools at one point!). Scalyr was created to solve that problem.
Over the past few years, our small team has developed a powerful tool for DevOps teams. It’s lightning-fast, feature-rich, and our customers - primarily engineers - love it (and pay for it.) We’ve been growing at a rapid clip, and we need more talented engineers to support that growth.
This is a wide-ranging role and broader than a "typical" sales engineer. You'll be working closely with both our sales and engineering teams to advocate on behalf of our customers. You'll answer questions, assist with demos, solve configuration problems, troubleshoot usage issues, and teach our potential and active users how best to use and succeed with Scalyr.
Our customers are highly technical (software engineers, DevOps engineers, etc.), so you should be comfortable interacting with folks in those roles.
In addition to answering technical questions, you'll dig in at the code level - debugging connectivity issues, writing parsers, building custom scripts, optimizing configuration files, and setting up search queries, dashboards, graphs, and alerts. This is a highly influential and high visibility role.
You'll primarily work with Casey Clark (our head of sales) and the rest of the sales team to help bring new customers on board. You'll also work with Steve Czerwinski (our lead engineer) and Steve Newman (our CEO and architect), both of whom have the deepest experience with Scalyr and who currently handle most of the more technical pre-sales and support questions.
We’re a small, close-knit group. We’re highly technical and cerebral. We listen to and support each other, value both affirming and dissenting opinions, have healthy debates (with no bruised egos), and love talking about our product, engineering, and everything else (from world politics to TV to science fiction novels.) We range in age from 20s to 50s.
Scalyr is backed by top-tier VCs (Google Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Susa Ventures, Sherpalo Ventures.) We have plenty of cash, and *gasp* paying customers and a healthy business model.
