Agent Engineer

The Gig

An ops visibility tool is only as good as the data it collects. We pride ourselves on collecting everything from logs to system metrics to application metrics to API data in whatever environment our customers are using.

If you enjoy constantly getting to play with new tools, come help us connect to... everything. You'll be playing around with software packages from Apache to Zookeeper, APIs from AWS to, er, Azure. Much of your work will involve adding modules to our open-source Python-based agent. If you're interested, there's also room to help create dashboards and write guides to help engineers make sense of all the data that $PACKAGE_X generates.

You'll be working on our core engineering team and collaborate directly with our senior engineers and product designers.

You should

  • Have at least 2 years of professional experience with Python;
  • Have strong experience writing and working with linux/unix shell scripts;
  • Have strong knowledge of linux/unix commands;

About Scalyr

We're a team of seasoned software professionals, hailing from places like Google, Stanford, and MIT. Most of us have founded or co-founded startups (Our founder, Steve Newman, was one of the creators of Writely, which was acquired by Google to become Google Docs) and we're all nerds at heart.

There aren't any long meetings here - we're allergic to unnecessary overhead. We use a lightweight agile process with two-week sprints and daily standups. We're always analyzing the effectiveness of the tools and processed we use, and we're careful about adopting new ones.

Scalyr is VC-funded startup, founded in 2011 by former Google engineers with a deep background in technical operations. We’re backed by top-tier VCs (Google Ventures, Bloomberg Beta, Susa Ventures, Sherpalo Ventures) and have plenty of cash. We have - *gasp* - paying customers and a healthy business model. And we’re growing.
